You should be able to cover the main structure of the topic in enough detail to make the reader feel like you actually understand "how it works" overall. Your term paper should cover a number of different physical issues relating to your topic, rather than "beating to death" one or two of those issues. Avoid unnecessary repetition. The grade you receive will reflect how well your term paper conveys an overall understanding of how the topic works, including a fair amount of specificity. Don't be vague. In the physical world, there really are correct and incorrect statements. Vague statements that can be misinterpreted in a way that makes them incorrect are not helpful. Please check your grammar and spelling, and proofread your papers. Bad writing will reduce your grade.

You should have some idea of what you want, as you can then search through the index of the book to find the pages or chapters that are relevant to what you're topic is about. If you know what you're looking for, it's much easier to decide how you're going to use the material; you should be writing down some things that might go into your term paper while you're reading. When you take notes, it will give you the basic information you need for your term paper.

Once you have written down your basic ideas you should then look through the points you have made and number them in order of importance. By now you should have some idea of how you're going to argue your case in the term paper. Most term papers have a logical argument that's contained within the body of the paper; it is where you give most of the answer to the question by considering different arguments in which some that you might agree with and some that you may disagree with.
